NEVADO DE TOLUCA
The "naked man"
4,680 m.a.s.l.

Prepare for a high-altitude adventure on this dormant volcano, Mexico's fourth highest mountain at an imposing 4,680 meters above sea level. Known ancestrally as Xinantécatl ("Naked Lord" in Nahuatl), and popularly as Nevado de Toluca, this sleeping giant awaits you with spectacular volcanic landscapes and exciting challenges.
Xinantécatl ("Naked Lord" in Nahuatl)
It is a stratovolcano or composite volcano, formed by multiple layers of hardened lavas, pyroclastic deposits (fragments of volcanic rock, ash, pumice) and mudflows (lahars) that have accumulated throughout its different eruptive stages.
Its origin dates back approximately 2.6 million years during the Pliocene, with the emission of andesitic and dacitic lavas that began to build the main volcanic structure.
Natural Beauty and Biodiversity
One of the most striking features of this volcano are its two large lagoons visible from the summit; the Lagoons of the Sun (in Nahuatl, Altepeyocatl) and of the Moon (in Nahuatl, Metztliocatl) are two bodies of water of volcanic origin that are located in the heart of the crater of Xinantécatl, or Nevado de Toluca.
They are one of the most distinctive and beautiful features of this volcano.
