IZTACCÍHUATL EXPEDITION

Discover the white woman!

5215 m.a.s.l.

Obsidiana Travel

Embark on an unforgettable adventure and ascend the majestic Iztaccíhuatl, one of Mexico's most iconic volcano complexes. At 5,215 meters above sea level, this colossus will challenge you to reach new heights as you immerse yourself in an ancient legend.

A group of 5 volcanic cones

Iztaccíhuatl, whose name in Nahuatl means "White Woman" (from iztac, "white," and cíhuatl, "woman"), is an inactive volcano located in central Mexico, on the border between the states of Puebla and Mexico State. It is a stratovolcano composed of five overlapping volcanic cones, which gives it its distinctive elongated shape. Its formation began approximately 1.7 million years ago.

A sacred volcano

In pre-Hispanic times, Iztaccíhuatl was considered a sacred mountain. Archaeological remains found on its peaks provide evidence of rituals dedicated to deities such as Tláloc.

The legend of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl is one of the best known in Mexico. It tells the tragic love story of a princess and a warrior, who were transformed into mountains by the gods.
